How to upgrade equipment

Equipment can be fused to increase the speed they give to spaceships. Each level of equipment brings a significant speed boost to your spaceship.
By paying Stardust and Gemstones, users are able to fuse lower-level equipment to produce higher-level ones. In that process, the lower-level equipment parts are combined together from inventory (wallet) and destroyed, and you will receive your newly forged higher-level equipment in your inventory (wallet).
In order to fuse equipment and level them up, a player requires 3 resources:
Stardust
Tier 4 Gemstones
2 equipment of the same type and level
For example, to get a Level 3 Inferno Thruster, you will need to fuse two Level 2 Inferno Thrusters. At various levels, the amount of Stardust and Gemstones required to level up varies.
For the first 5 levels, the cost of fusion is zero.
No gemstones and stardust are required. All you need is the appropriate number of lower-tier equipment as mentioned above.
For the next 5 levels, fusion costs will kick in, requiring variable amounts of:
Tier 4 Gemstones (increases at each equipment tier)
High-level equipment parts are precious and boost the speed of your spaceship significantly, thus a higher quantity of Tier 4 Gemstones is required to level up higher-level equipment.

Each type of equipment part can only be upgraded with its respective type of Tier 4 Gemstone.
Argonium Exoshell <> Tier 4 Steel Gemstones
Inferno Thrusters <> Tier 4 Fire Gemstones
Thunderbolt Wings <> Tier 4 Lightning Gemstones
You may acquire Tier 4 Gemstones by either fusing Gemstones or directly purchasing from the Atlantis Marketplace.
